In this project - we helped the same school for which we got cleaning supplies. This time, we helped them get uniforms and supplies (ties) for kids to use when they returned to school. While the idea of school uniforms may be unusual for those in the united states where uniforms are the norm in public schools, in countries like Sri Lanka, all school kids wear uniforms. When the kids are not able to afford uniforms, they are not able to go to school.
This school wanted to reopen after the COVID-19 pandemic, but they did not have basic supplies such as school uniforms. We provided ties for 109 students. This is the Sri Punyakami Vidyalaya, in Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka.
This is a typical school uniform. Girls wear white dresses with pleated skirts. Boys wear white shirts and either white or black shorts.
All kids photos are displayed with permission.
